Local School Districts

Higher Education

The region has easy access to some of the country’s most respected higher learning institutions. Many of these colleges and universities offer both brick-and-mortar locations and distance-learning options, and most are within a 60-mile radius in Southern Indiana.

  • Indiana University Bloomington - Located just north of Lawrence County, Indiana University offers a wide variety of classroom options. Undergraduates can choose from over 180 majors and 330-degree programs. Graduate students can pursue more than 190 master’s, doctoral, and professional degrees.

  • Indiana University Southeast - Indiana University Southeast, located next to Crawford and Washington counties, is one of eight Indiana University campuses. IU Southeast provides highly respected degrees and world-class resources, as well as the one-to-one personal attention that helps many students find success. Not to mention, IU Southeast offers the excitement of a Big Ten university.

  • Ivy Tech Community College - With three campuses in the south-central Indiana region, Ivy Tech provides the necessary training for a skilled workforce. Ivy Tech Community College is Indiana’s largest public post-secondary institution, serving nearly 200,000 students a year.

  • Purdue University - One of Purdue University’s four regional campuses is located just northwest of the Radius Indiana region. Purdue maintains a training, research, and technology commercialization presence at Westgate@Crane, in the Radius Region. Purdue’s College of Technology, which is in close proximity to south central Indiana, also offers learning programs. Purdue University serves a vital role in higher education in and around south central Indiana.

  • Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is ranked as one of the nation’s top institutions in engineering. More than 1,800 undergraduate and 100 graduate students are majoring in engineering, science, and mathematics at Rose-Hulman, in preparation for careers.

  • University of Evansville - The University of Evansville is located southwest of the Radius Indiana region. UE is ranked among the top 20 comprehensive universities in the United States for study-abroad programs. The university has received national recognition for its dedication to international education.

  • University of Southern Indiana - The University of Southern Indiana has an enrollment of nearly 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Programs at this comprehensive public university include 70 undergraduate majors, 10 master’s programs, and 1 doctoral program. The University of Southern Indiana is located just southwest of the 8 counties served by Radius Indiana.

  • Vincennes University - Vincennes University has multiple community college locations in south-central Indiana and offers a variety of academic classroom programs and degrees. In addition, its workforce development initiatives help create a highly educated labor force in south-central Indiana.

Ready Schools Initiative

Created by the Regional Opportunity Initiatives, The Ready Schools Initiative is a design-thinking framework to support school districts in aligning their PK-12 curricular and programmatic offerings to the educational and workforce needs of the Indiana Uplands.

To support elementary educators in developing STEM teaching and leadership skills, Regional Opportunity Initiatives has created a STEM Fellowship to build a network of skilled K-6 educators throughout southern Indiana.
